Since 1972, Daily Thermetrics has provided the process industries with precise temperature measurement instrumentation. Throughout the chemical, petrochemical and refining industries, we provide hundreds of plant operators with key process control data with our Cat Tracker technology.

Single Source Provider

Because traceability, quality control and a timely delivery are important, Daily Thermetrics is one of three temperature manufactures that manufacturer its own thermowells. We manufacture up to 72” thermowells in single piece construction and our resident engineering custom designs to meet a myriad of customer requirements. Because Daily Thermetrics truly understands the needs of their customers, all of our flanged thermowells are serialized for true traceability.

Engineering

We employ some of the most experienced engineers in the temperature measurement field and have an in-house engineering capability to design and troubleshoot to quickly meet customer needs. Our engineering group staff is well seasoned in solving basic thermocouple problems as well as complicated applications such as multipoints to profile internal hydrocracker activity. We employ multiple computer programs to effectively calculate variables such as density and viscosity to measure vibration and hold numerous patents in the field of temperature sensing instrumentation.

Testing

For all full penetration thermowell welds Daily Thermetrics provides 100% ultrasonic testing at no additional charge. This procedure is superior to x-ray in that the entire weld is scrutinized. The weld either passes or fails using stringent predetermined industry accepted guidelines. Our ultrasonic test procedures leave no room for subjectivity. All test activity is documented and maintained at the factory and available to customers free of charge upon request.

Quality Control

The key word in the Daily Thermetrics quality program is traceability. Each step from procurement of raw materials through each phase of manufacture and testing is fully traceable. Our 32,000 square foot manufacturing facility is climate controlled to ensure the quality manufacture of thermocouples and RTDs. All welders must qualify per ASME section IX in the 6G position with a splice on a 2” XXH pipe. This qualification level exceeds that of the nuclear power industry.

Daily Thermetrics’ CatTracker® Catalyst Tracking System incorporates cutting-edge aerospace technology backed by over 30 years of experience to provide process engineers with the most complete temperature profile possible.

Reliability and Flexibility
With its rugged aerospace design, the CatTracker® is unsurpassed in reliability. Since 2001, thousands of points have been placed into operation without a single failure of a CatTracker® sensing point. The CatTracker® is designed with plant safety and reliability in mind by including a secondary containment chamber to allow uninterrupted, continuous operation, even in the event of primary seal weld failure.

By offering multiple (individually isolated) sensing points with minimal hardware, the CatTracker® offers the flexibility of virtually unlimited sensing points within a reactor vessel. These sensing points can be placed practically anywhere inside the vessel to satisfy processors’ ever-increasing desire for increased temperature feedback and control. The CatTracker® makes retrofitting even the most complicated reactors simple.

Simple, Cost-effective Support Structures
The CatTracker®’s support structures are designed to install quickly and easily, while at the same time maintaining the integrity to survive catalyst dump. By avoiding the more intricate (and more costly) “Wagon Wheel” design required by competitive systems, we are able to offer less interference with the Dense Loading Process. Our simple support structures also allow the installation time to be greatly reduced, which results in quicker start-ups.

Daily Thermetrics’ support structures are designed such that no probe tips are left unsupported. Therefore, the CatTracker® has the ability to better withstand the great forces during the emptying of the reactor without bending. This benefit eliminates the need for field repair of the thermocouple tips.

Thermocouple Specifications

Daily Thermetrics has experience with virtually all thermocouple types. Our
experienced Engineers will be happy in answering any question in regards to
the best thermocouple type for a specific application.

Consistency: All thermocouple wire per installation will be from the same lot
of material and will be annealed in the same heat-treating cycle.
Junction Heat Treat: All thermocouple junctions will be heat treated after
fabrication.

Response Time: 15 Seconds (defined as 66.7% reading of a step change.

Junctions: Ungrounded and Isolated

Insulation: 99.4% pure Magnesium Oxide.

Compaction Ratio: 88 to 92%. This exceeds the 70% compaction ratio on
standard thermocouples.

Marking of Points: All points are marked by two weld beads that are 1.5” on
each side of the sensing point.

Sheath Materials

Daily Thermetrics has experience in a variety of materials, some of which are listed below. Our
experience engineers are available to help select materials for your specific application.

304 SS: Good to 1600°F (871°C) and has good resistance to oxidation and corrosion. This is a
good general-purpose stainless steel.

310 SS: Good to 2100°F (1150°C) and is suitable for Sulfur bearing atmospheres. Good
resistance to oxidation to 2000°F.

316 SS: Good to 1650°F (900°C) and has higher corrosion resistance than 304 SS. Good in
Sulfuric acid compounds.

347 and 321 SS: Good to 1600°F (871°C) and is Columbium stabilized to prevent carbide
precipitation found in 304, 316 and 310 SS between 800°F and 1500°F. Excellent for
Hydrotreaters and Hydrocrackers. CatTracker generally

Sheath Length: We have units running that are over 120 feet (40 meters)
Bending Radius: May be bent in 1-inch (25mm) radius without affecting junction or internal
integrity.

Thermal Transfer: Temperature reading is not affected by temperature gradient on sheath 2
inches (50 mm) from junction in flowing atmosphere.
Pressure Rating: Dependent on sheath thickness and flange connection. 10,000 psi (690 bar)
